Dunes of Nag's Head

I was curious why this place was named Nag's Head. I was told that in the past this place was a safe heaven for on-shore pirates. They put lanterns on old horses and let them wander along the shore, so the lights were visible from the ships in the ocean. The ships landed hoping to find a settlement, but rather were robbed by those pirates.
