Elvish Forest by aponom Elvish Forest by aponom
Moving deeper inland from the Pacific coast of the Olympic peninsula, one enters the vast area of absolutely wild rain forest. There are only a couple of valleys there, which are accessible by car, and the only way to move around is to stay on the trail.

Hoh valley, Olympic National Park, Washingon.

I understand how difficult it is to find a point of interest for a photograph in a forest. You have done well with this pic. I was in a similar forest called 'The Enchanted Forest' on the NZ mountain 'Taranaki' or Mt Egmont in '84. I didn't get THE photo....

That's true. I took maybe close to 100 pictures during that trip to Olympic national park, and most of them came out absolutely dull. I'm glad you liked this one!

I have been in places like this Andrew (the flanks of Taranaki [Mt Egmont] in New Zealand) but find it difficult to portray the scene as effectively as you have done here. Thanks for your art!

Right, when in the field, it is usually very difficult to filter out the overwhelming richness of the details in the scene and compose properly, I often end up with many mediocre images. Thank you for your comment, glad you liked that photo!

What a beautiful place! I've always loved forests with lots and lots of green in them, as opposed to ones that look barren and dead-ish.

As far as I know, Olympic peninsula has the most northern rain forest on Earth. Thank you for your comment!
