After so many years I finally managed to get to Eastern State Penitentiary, an old prison in Philadelphia, which is now a museum. Quite a weird museum, to say the least, but what a place for a photographer! Our kind is a strange people, I know... This notorious prison was opened in 1829, and was build with the idea that a solitary confinement would inspire penitence in the hearts of the criminals. It had a pretty remarkable design for its time, it had central heating system, running water and flush toilets in each cell when Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the USA was still relieving himself in a bucket in the White House. It witnessed a lot, Charles Dickens visited it, Al Capone was kept here. It operated until 1970, and after that it is just keep crumbling. There are rumors of ghost encounters in its long dark corridors and cells. I'll be posting some of the photos I managed to take there, so stay tuned!
